HANDBOOK OF THE JAPANESE TYPE 2F - TOJO

 

 

1 - PREPARATIONS FOR STARTING

 

1. Check up.

2. (See that the) switches (are) off.

3. Set the undercarriage selector switch, the cowling gills and MA cock in neutral. (MA: Main Armament?)

4. Switch on accumulator(s), generator, flap position indicator and all other switches (? practically illegible - T.N.)

5. Check the safety lock (green light and finger lenght projection). (green light on the gear position indicator, and mechanical visual checking device protruding from top of wing)

6. Set the propeller (control) to maximum pitch.

7. Close the altitude lever. (supercharger control?)

8. Check whether the primary speed selector lever and the flap (illegible - T.N.) lowering device are engaged.

9. Turn on the cock(s) for the appropriate fuel tank(s).

10. Operate the hand pump (fuel pressure 3.5 kg/cm2).

11 Work the throttle lever once or twice and set at about 0.05 (10% of 0. - T.N) Check the carburettor cutouts.

 

 

2 - STARTING

 

1. Listen for the signal "contact" (from the ground crew - T.N.) and then switch on.

2. Press the starter button on the electrical distributing panel.

 

 

3 - WARMING UP

 

1. Keep the RPM below 500 (for starting)

2. Watch the oil pressure at minimum RPM.

3. Set the RPM to give an oil pressure of at least 4 kg/cm2.

4. Put the propeller in fine pitch.

5. Warm up (oil temperature, inlet above 40 deg. and outlet 60 deg.) There is no switch nor push button to have a dual reading of the inlet and outlet temperature ?

6. Make the performance check.

7. Check the magnetos (lit. - switches - T.N.) at 1800 - 2000 RPM and (see that) the drop is less than 70 RPM.
